chapter1061
Continuing a life like this, by his side, would drive her mad eventually.
But she couldn't dare let Lysander know her true feelings.
After a moment of contemplation, she locked eyes with him and asked, "If you had known I was
pregnant early on, would you have married me? Because I wouldn’t leave if you said 'yes'."
Her earnest, watery eyes sought his. Her voice was tinged with a challenge.
And just like that, the question was tossed to him.
She knew all too well that he would never marry her. He had warned her more than once not to aspire
to the title of Mrs. Sinclair; she was simply out of her league.
Even Zephyr had warned her that a country bumpkin like her could never match up to Lysander, who
was expected to marry a woman of high society, someone his equal.
The only reason she had managed to stay by his side was thanks to the four children.
Even if she hadn't been Bruce's daughter, Lysander would never have considered marrying her!
Her question was a smokescreen, intended to deflect his probing and cover up her own true feelings.
As Lysander gazed into Thalassa’s clear, serious eyes and heard her probing question, his eyes
darkened, and his chiseled facial features tensed up fiercely.
He had thought about marrying her once. When he first learned five years ago that she was the woman
who had saved his life with her own body, he had considered bringing her home to meet his parents
and discuss marriage.
But then he found out she was Bruce's daughter, child of the man he despised most in this world, and
his hatred extended to her. Marrying her became an impossibility.
Later, when he discovered she had secretly given birth to four of his children, the thought of marriage
crossed his mind again.
But then he learned she was the woman his nephew, Leopold, couldn't forget. They had been in love
for two years, had talked of marriage, and had cherished each other.
Even if they had separated five years ago due to a misunderstanding, their hearts were still entwined.
Any contact between Thalassa and Leopold left Lysander feeling gloomy and irate, irrational and angry.
The words of his father, who had cautioned him, often echoed in his mind - Lysander, never marry a
woman who doesn't have you in her heart, or you'll end up as miserable as I did.
He would wake up from nightmares in which his parents died tragically in a car accident.
Lysander’s profound eyes stayed fixed on Thalassa’s sincere gaze, his own becoming as unfathomable
as a hole.
"Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?" After a brief silence, he evaded her question with a
concerned tone in his voice.
Thalassa’s gaze shifted, as if snapping back to reality. Her eyes was void of the hope that had flickered
there before. "I could go for some turkey and wild rice soup." she replied casually.
She didn't dwell on his non-answer. It seemed unimportant, though the sense of disappointment
weighed heavily on her heart, as heavy and solid as a stone.
At her request, Lysander pulled out his phone and made a call.
Soon enough, someone arrived with the food. Thalassa sat up and was ready to eat on her own.
"Don't move, just open your mouth." Lysander said. He cradled the bowl in his hands and scooped up
the soup. He intended to feed her himself.
Thalassa felt ridiculous. She was only suffering from a stomach-ache, not incapacitated in any way.
She could manage to eat on her own.
But with Lysander’s dominating presence, it was hard for her to protest. Reluctantly, she opened her
mouth and allowed him to spoon-feed her the soup.
Lysander was surprisingly patient. Spoonful by spoonful, his movements were gentle as he fed her.
Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a soft glow on the pair, creating an illusion of tranquil
domesticity.
For a moment, Thalassa got lost in a daydream. She imagined an older version of herself, ill and
hospitalized, with Lysander by her side to take care of her.
Her thoughts were drifting far away when a brash voice shattered the stillness of the room, "Lysander,
come out! I want to know who's been using the birth control pills I found at Central Ring Villa!"
