chapter1187
Alaric's piercing gaze lingered on Hertha as he walked past her, with Angelina trailing behind. The
moment Angelina's eyes met Hertha's, a flicker of cold surprise crossed her face, but it vanished as
quickly as it appeared, and she continued to cheerfully usher Georgia and her mother to keep up.
It was only after the group had passed that Hertha allowed her tense shoulders to relax.
"Do you know those people?" Spencer's voice suddenly cut through the air.
Thalassa was about to speak, but Hertha beat her to it, "No, we don't."
Her answer was emphatic, causing Spencer to pause.
Alaric, who had taken a seat behind them, stiffened at her resolute response, throwing a chilling glance
in Hertha's direction.
Unaware of Alaric's reaction, as she was facing away from him, Hertha could clearly see the confusion
on Spencer's face.
Seeing Spencer's puzzled look, she chuckled and explained, "We're just average middle-class folks.
Those people are clearly from the high society, the cream of the crop—way out of our league."
She put a pointed emphasis on "high society." The people at the next table, including Georgia and her
mother, turned to glance at her upon hearing her words.
Angelina quickly changed the subject, "Georgia, what's your favorite dish? Why don't you pick
something for us? It's not every day that our families get together like this, and we're here to discuss
the union between you and Alaric, no need to let outsiders spoil the mood."
With her roundabout way, Angelina's words were clearly meant for Hertha's ears.
"Sure, I'll pick something. Alaric, what do you fancy? I'll start with your favorites," said Georgia, ever so
considerate.
"Look at this sweet girl, how thoughtful she is. Come, sit next to Alaric. It'll make it easier for you two to
discuss the menu," Angelina said warmly, quickly swapping places with Georgia, ensuring she was
seated next to Alaric.
Georgia was more than eager to be closer to Alaric and without hesitation sat beside him, leaning in
with the menu so close their heads were nearly touching. "Alaric, what do you think we should order?"
It was an intentional move by Georgia. She wanted to be close to Alaric and also for Hertha to hear
how well she got along with him.
Though Hertha and Alaric pretended not to know each other, Georgia was well aware that they were
quite familiar, having witnessed their intimate interaction before.
To Alaric, Hertha was just one of many conquests.
What a stroke of bad luck today, Georgia thought, running into Hertha while discussing marriage with
Alaric.
Alaric remained still, his sharp gaze fixed on Hertha across the room.
Hertha, overhearing Georgia's coquettish tone with Alaric, felt a pang in her heart as she recalled
Angelina's words about reality.
Spencer looked pleasantly surprised, not expecting such a considerate gesture on their first meeting. It
seemed like a sign of approval, an indication that she was satisfied and interested in a future with him.

His spirits lifted like a boy who had caught the attention of a girl, Spencer enthusiastically and tenderly
offered food to Hertha.
