chapter2100
To leave the house, Nicholas had to pass through the living room, unavoidably walking past Robert and Wren.
"Why are you leaving so soon after just arriving?" Wren asked when he saw that Nicholas was about to leave.
Nicholas made a half-hearted hum in response.
Wren frowned. "Stay for dinner."
Nicholas did not accept the invitation, walking right past Wren as if he hadn't heard him.
Wren felt a little embarrassed.
Robert had been watching them silently. After taking a sip of his coffee, he said, "Children get rebellious when they grow up. Adrian often makes me angry, too, so don't take it to heart."
Wren nodded.
"If there's nothing else, we'll head back now. Regarding the cooperation, I'll have to trouble you to persuade Nathaniel." Robert paused, then added, "You are Nathaniel's father, after all—the head of the family."
"Don't worry, Robert," Wren responded and saw him off.
As a matter of fact, Wren was not foolish; he could clearly see that Robert's visits were always purposeful.
However, he was a person who never cared about fame or profit, only kinship.
Later, he pulled Nathaniel aside when they were alone.
"Nathaniel, Robert hasn't been having a smooth year. If you can, let him handle that overseas cooperation project. Think of it as helping him out. He'll remember your kindness later," Wren exhorted.
Nathaniel's expression became troubled. "Dad, business isn't about feelings. If I break this rule, won't all the company's senior executives start mixing personal favors into their work?"
"Just this once," Wren insisted.
Nathaniel was about to refuse, but Wren added, "I'm your father. Is it really too much for me to ask you to do just this one thing?"
"Fine, I will make an exception for him this one time. But Dad, after this, please don't use this matter to make demands of me again," Nathaniel said and left the study.
As soon as he left, Elena arrived at the doorway, feeling a little disappointed.
"You really are generous, aren't
You don't hesitate to conce your own sons interests for an outsider, Elena remarked. .net>
"What do you mean by 'outsider'? That's my big brother, my flesh and blood," Wren retorted, annoyed.
"Fine, fine. Just wait and see how your dear brother strips you baronet later," Elena scoffed, walking straight toward him. If there's nothing else, get out. fneed to use the study."
In the past, despite being a strong, decisive woman who commanded respect outside, Elena was still gentle with Wren.
However, the current her was aggressive.
Wren wanted to chide her, but he could only swallow the words he was about to say upon meeting her sharp gaze.
Cecilia was inside the room with the children, dozing off from lethargy While she was half asleep, she felt a pair of hands lift her and place her on the bed.
When she opened her eyes, she was greeted by Nathaniel's face.
"You're back," she murmured.
"Yeah. Why did you fall asleep on the floor?" he asked.
The floor was covered with a rug and had underfloor heating, so it wasn't cold at all.
"I was too tired from playing and fell asleep unknowingly." Cecilia sat up on the bed and looked around.
The four children were sleeping in different spots.
"You should quickly carry them back to their rooms," Cecilia said.
"Let them walk back themselves," Nathaniel said, then walked toward Jonathan. "Jon, wake up," he called out.
Jonathan was instantly woken up. He rubbed his eyes and looked around, taking a long moment to be fully awake.
"Oh, okay." He stood up sleepily.
Nathaniel then instructed him, "Wake up your brothers and take them with you."
