Chapter 2140

chapter2138

Nicholas opened his contact list and saw the call the shop assistant had made to Jocelyn after he got drunk.

His mind was a tangled mess, and he felt the urge to act on impulse.

After what felt like an eternity, Nicholas finally dialed Jocelyn's number.

At that moment, Jocelyn was alone at the office. Yannick had dropped her off and left to deal with his own matters.

Seeing the call from Nicholas, she hesitated for a moment before answering.

"Mr. Rainsworth, is something the matter?" she asked.

Mr. Rainsworth? Nicholas was taken aback by the unfamiliar, formal address.

"Was it you who brought me to the hospital today?" he asked.

Jocelyn did not deny it. "It was me and Yannick. But it's all thanks to his help. I wouldn't have been able to carry you by myself."

Every sentence she spoke was laced with Yannick's name. Nicholas understood that she was deliberately reminding him that she was married to Yannick.

"Then please thank him for me," Nicholas said warmly.

"Sure. You don't have to worry about it. Yannick said that since we used to work together, we should help each other from time to time." Jocelyn's tone was polite yet distant.

She's bringing up Yannick again... Nicholas' mood became exceptionally heavy. "Jocelyn, I have something to tell you," he said.

"Oh? What is it?" Jocelyn felt instinctively nervous for some reason.

Nicholas was silent for a long time before saying, "I've realized lately that I can't live without you in my life. Can you come back to my side?"

His words were like a stone thrown into a calm lake, sending ripples of tension through Jocelyn's heart.

Jocelyn stammered, "I... I've found a new job. Things are good at the new company, so I can't return to "

"That's not what I mean," Nicholas interrupted her. "I know you like me."

That sentence, "I know you like me," was like a clap of thunder, striking Jocelyn directly.

All the blood in her body seemed to freeze.

Nicholas has always known that I like him, but he ignored it and pretended not to know. Jocelyn thought she had done a good job hiding her crush from him, but he had seen through it long ago.

A massive stone seemed to weigh down on Jocelyn's heart, making it hard for her to breathe.

Since she didn't speak, Nicholas continued, "I want to be with you—will you let me?"

After all this time alone, he realized that at some point, he had become accustomed to having Jocelyn by

hr side. That feeling was harder to

let go of than the love he once held for Cecilia.

Nicholas belatedly discovered that he had

Je been in love with but his stubbornnessel

him believe he still loved Cecilia.

Jocelyn unconsciously clenched her phone so hard that her fingers turned white.

Had Nicholas uttered those words before she decided to marry Yannick, she would have been overjoyed.

But now, she was married to Yannick, and she had promised not to betray him.

"Mr. Rainsworth, are you playing some kind of joke on me?" Jocelyn's voice was slightly hoarse.

Nicholas gripped his phone tightly. "Jocelyn, I'm being serious. If you say yes, we can get married."

His words gave Jocelyn a sudden urge to laugh.

Does he think that I desperately want to marry him, and that saying this would automatically make me agree to be with him?

"Mr. Rainsworth, have you forgotten? I'm already married," Jocelyn replied.

Why didn't he confess to me when I was single? Isn't he just trying to embarrass me by bringing it up now?

"I know. As long as you say yes, we can return to the way things were at the very beginning," Nicholas insisted.
