chapter2144
Unfortunately, Nicholas didn't receive a single call or message from Jocelyn during his long stay in the hospital.
Staring at Jocelyn's phone number on his phone screen, Nicholas became lost in thought.
Wren pushed the door open, and Nicholas quickly turned off his phone.
"Dad, why are you here again?" He was truly exhausted from dealing with his parents.
Wren sat beside him. "How are you feeling today?"
Nicholas parted his lips to reply emotionlessly, "I feel the same as before. Nothing changed."
"How can that be? The doctor gave you medicine, and your complexion is better," Wren said.
Nicholas didn't have the patience to entertain him. "Dad, if you have nothing else to tell me, please just go home."
"It's been so long. Don't you want to talk to me?" Wren asked.
"We have nothing to talk about." Nicholas closed his eyes.
"Tell me why did you suddenly drink so much? Do you have something on your mind? Let me know about it, and I'll do everything in my power to help you," Wren advised sincerely.
Nicholas sneered. "You can't. Don't make promises so casually in the future."
Wren was speechless.
Nicholas rolled onto his side with his back toward Wren.
With no other choice, Wren got up to leave.
When he arrived outside the ward, he suddenly felt so useless. He wasn't even able to have a simple father-son conversation with Nicholas.
Elena, having finished asking the doctor about Nicholas' condition, turned on her heels and saw the frustrated-looking Wren.
Smiling, she walked over and asked, "How did the talk with Nicholas go?"
Wren's expression was glum. "He refuses to talk to me," he answered truthfully.
"Of course he won't. When he was a kid, you were busy traveling the world and didnt interact with himat. all Now that he's grown up, it's even less likely you'll have any common topics to talk about."
Elena paused, then added, "I recently saw a video online. When the kid was little, the father was always on his phone and ignored him. When the child grew up, he was always on his phone and ignored his father. It's a two-way street."
Wren was stumped for words, finding himself unable to refute her. "I know I was wrong. Stop bringing it up."
"Hah. You're worried about being told off?" Elena sneered.
At a loss, Wren stopped talking to her, and so she walked past him and entered Nicholas' ward.
Just as expected, she also got the cold shoulder from Nicholas.
Nicholas treated Elena no differently than Wren. With no choice, she

Nicholas' dramatic change surprised Cecilia. She was curious but didn't pry into the specifics.
One day, Cecilia received a call from Meredith, who told her she had met with Cassandra.
Meredith's main purpose for meeting Cassandra was to inquire about Dahlia's biological father.
She wanted to know who the man was so that Dahlia could receive paternal love if possible.
However, Cassandra told Meredith to have Cecilia ask her instead.
"Ceci, I'm sorry to trouble you again," Meredith said.
"You don't need to apologize to me. I'll ask her," Cecilia replied.
"Okay." Meredith was very grateful to Cecilia.
After ending the call, Cecilia called Norman to make the arrangements.
The next morning, Cecilia saw Cassandra again, and the latter had changed drastically.
Not only was Cassandra emaciated, but her long hair was also cut short, her eyes were vacant, and her once beautiful face was covered in new and old scars.
Despite Cassandra's pitiful state, Cecilia showed her no sympathy and asked the question bluntly. "Who is Dahlia's father?"
