chapter2246
Sure enough, the second Robert hung up, Wren turned on Elena.
"My brother just called. What was that about the grandsons getting into a fight?"
"A fight?" Elena's chest tightened. "Jon and Elliot weren't hurt, were they?"
"Your two grandsons are perfectly fine. Felix is the one who got hurt. And from what I heard, Elliot and Jon laid hands on him because they were helping some other classmates." Wren frowned. "You really need to talk to those kids. Even brothers have to stand together when they face trouble. How could they side with outsiders and bully their own cousin?"
That set a hard fire under Elena.
Still, she kept it down and didn't let it flare out.
She gave a cold laugh. "Jon and Elliot are the most sensible, best-behaved children there are. Why would they help outsiders bully their own family? Shouldn't you be asking Robert what really happened?"
"Felix grew up at the old man's side. He was spoiled rotten by the old man and his mother. He's arrogant and overbearing, and if he got hit, he had it coming."
"Good thing Jon and Elliot are fine. Tell your brother this if anything happened to my grandsons, I would never let his grandson off."
After saying that, Elena stood up and headed inside.
She had no interest in standing there any longer and listening to Wren go on.
Seeing her act like that, Wren was left boiling. He started to go after her so he could say his piece, then stopped when Mr. Chandler's piece of land came back to mind.
In the end, he had no choice but to call Cecilia himself.
At that moment, Cecilia was at work.
She'd completely forgotten about going to pick up the kids yesterday afternoon.
So when her father-in-law's call came in, it caught her off guard.
Usually, if Wren had something to say, he called Nathaniel.
Why was he calling her today?
"Dad, did you need something?" she asked as she picked up.
Wren knew this daughter-in-law of his understood how to handle things and was easy to talk to.
That was exactly why he'd called her.
"Ceci, I heard Jon, Elliot, and Felix had a little conflict yesterday."
Cecilia paused.
"What conflict?"
Yesterday, she had seen Felix and Miranda standing in front of her sons.
Not long after, they'd left.
But she had no idea what had happened before that.
Later, she'd asked her son about it, and he'd said it was nothing.
Wren passed along what Robert had told him, only in a more careful, softened way.
"Ceci, that child Felix may have been spoiled rotten, but he's still Elliot and Jon's own cousin. You should talk to Elliot and Jon. Don't let them bully Felix over some outsider."
The second she heard that, Cecilia knew the eldest branch was stirring up trouble again.
She didn't agree with Wren.
Instead, she kept her voice even and
said, "Dad, when I get back, I'll ask the kids what happened. If they really did bully Felix for no reason, I'll make them apologize to him. But if there was some other reason then it'll be handled differently. You don't need to worry about it."
"I still have work to do, so I'm hanging up now. Dad, get some good rest."
Cecilia hung up right away.
Cecilia knew Wren wasn't a bad man by nature. He just couldn't tell who was actually on his side.
Still, after she hung up, she called the school and asked Daniel to put Jon on the telephone.
As soon as Jonathan got Cecilia's call, he told her everything from start to finish.
That was when she found out Felix had been the one bullying Dante first. Jonathan hadn't been able to just stand there and watch, so he had kicked Felix.
"So that's what happened. Helping the weak and stopping the strong from bullying them isn't wrong, but next time, you need to watch your limits you can try talking first but you can just kick someone right away."
"Mm, Mommy, I know. I won't do it again."
Jonathan nodded.
He had known Felix would go home and complain. Sure enough, he had.
