Phoebe sighed. "It's not that I mind him being poor, but different families and different social classes mean different values and outlooks on life."

She continued, "Right now, she's infatuated with him, but once the honeymoon phase is over, she'll realize the differences between the two of them."

Phoebe then turned to look at Cecilia. "Ceci, you agree, don't you?"

Cecilia's face stiffened. Why are you asking me?

"Yeah, the large gap in their statuses can indeed lead to conflict later on," Cecilia said.

She then quickly changed the subject. "However, I think if two people truly love each other, they should be able to overcome all obstacles."

She had agreed with both sides, careful not to offend Chelsea or Phoebe.

Frankly, Cecilia didn't know how Chelsea and Jason had gotten together.

From what she remembered, they were having problems last year.

Phoebe sighed upon hearing Cecilia's comment. "No matter what, I won't approve of Jason. He's just after our family's money."

Elena laughed. "If you break them up, won't you have to worry about Chelsea's marriage again?"

Phoebe was rendered speechless. That's true. Chelsea's not young anymore, so it's time for her to get married. If she delays any longer, it'll be difficult for her to have children later. Besides, Kingston and I are getting old; we won't be able to look after her forever.

Unsure of what to do, Phoebe sighed repeatedly. Then, she laid her gaze on Cecilia again. "Ceci, Chelsea likes you the most. She always sees you as her role model. Please talk some sense into her. We have so many eligible rich bachelors of the same class here. She can pick anyone she wants, so why must she be with Jason?"

To Phoebe, Cecilia was smart.

Back then, the Smith family had been nothing special, and yet Cecilia did everything in her power to marry Nathaniel, reaching far above her station. That took both brains and courage-qualities Phoebe prayed might rub off on her own daughter.

"How can persuade Chelsea? If I do, she might resent me. You know her well, don't you? Once she sets her heart on a person or a matter, there's no changing her mind," Cecilia replied.

Phoebe nodded. "You're right. She's stubborn, and that can't be changed."

Just as she was about to say something else, a familiar voice came from outside the door. "Ceci!"

It was Chelsea.

When Chelsea walked in, she spotted her mother immediately.

She first greeted Elena, then reluctantly asked Phoebe, "Mom, why are you here?"

"I'm too worried about you, so I came here to relax," Phoebe said angrily.

"Then stop worrying. I've already found myself a boyfriend. From now on, you and Dad only need to take care of yourselves. You won't have to worry about my marriage anymore," Chelsea said casually.

Phoebe couldn't contain her anger. "Chelsea, I'm warning you-I will not approve of Jason."

"Fine, suit yourself. Do whatever you want. Anyway, Jason and I have already registered our marriage," Chelsea revealed.

Phoebe almost fainted. "W-What did you say?" she stammered from shock.

Cecilia and Elena exchanged glances and saw the same disbelief in each other's eyes.

Chelsea had gotten married behind her parents' backs?

Phoebe couldn't lose her temper in front of outsiders, so she stood up and dragged Chelsea out of the house. "Come home with me and telf me everything."

As Chelsea reached the door, she didn't forget to look back to say to Cecilia, "Ceci, I'll drop by another day."
