chapter2222
"All right." Lucille let the matter drop.
After all, Mason worked under Nathaniel.
Mason had taken a day off just to pick her up, while Nathaniel hadn't shown, which did feel a touch awkward.
At last a car eased up to the curb and stopped in front of them.
Lucille eyed the luxury sedan in confusion and held back, assuming it was Cecilia's driver.
Then the window slid down, and Nathaniel's face came into view.
Cecilia's brows lifted. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to pick you up." Nathaniel had already stepped out and taken her suitcase.
"Didn't you say you were swamped?"
Cecilia wasn't some wide-eyed girl who needed her boyfriend to play chauffeur anymore.
She simply wanted Nathaniel to run the company well so their life together would keep improving.
"Picking you up didn't take long at all," Nathaniel said. He then glanced at Lucille, who stood there awkwardly. "Mason isn't here yet?"
Lucille shook her head. "Not yet."
"That guy left before I did-how could he arrive after me?" Nathaniel muttered. He looked at the cars behind them. "It's a straight road; why is he crawling?"
Lucille felt just as puzzled.
"Maybe his driving isn't as good as yours. It's fine-why don't you and Ms. Cecilia go ahead? I'll wait for him."
"Alright."
Nathaniel nodded and guided Cecilia into the car.
Once they were seated and the engine started, Cecilia watched Lucille disappear in the rear-view mirror. "Why did you claim Mason left before you but got here late?" she asked.
Nathaniel's lips curved. "Because Mason teased me today, said I was jealous."
Cecilia still didn't quite get it.
She pressed, "So you mean...?"
"Mason actually left after me," Nathaniel admitted.
Exasperation flashed across Cecilia's face; he had fooled Lucille on purpose.
With Lucille's temper, she would blow up when Mason finally rolled in.
How had she only now noticed Nathaniel's sly streak, even toward his own people?
"By the way, what was that jealousy about?" Cecilia asked.
Nathaniel's expression shifted. He handed her his phone.
"Read the first message."
Cecilia opened it. An unknown number had sent several photos.
The pictures showed her and Calvin laughing together at the arcade last night.
Her brows drew together. "Who shot these?"
"No idea," Nathaniel said while

"Nothing, just asking."
"Oh."
She let it drop, leaned back, and tried to rest.

"Aren't we going home?" she asked.
"No, I'm taking you somewhere," he said.
"Where?"
"You'll know when we get there."
Seeing he wouldn't say, Cecilia waited in silence.
After a while, Nathaniel parked in front of a massive mall.
He opened the door and got out. "Come on."
Moving lazily, Cecilia climbed out and followed him.
